As one of the most iconic franchises in all of sports, the Dallas Cowboys have deep roots in the Texas community. Following a recent weather disaster in the area, the organization has decided to step up and lend a helping hand.

Earlier this week, parts of Texas were hit with what the National Weather Service dubbed “life-threatening flooding.” Over a span of just a few hours, multiple counties were hit with nearly 15 inches of rain. This tragedy has ravaged the area and left local officials scrambling to try and supply citizens in the area the proper emergency services they need.

As relief efforts continue in parts of Central Texas, the Cowboys put out an official statement regarding the situation on Sunday morning. Along with offering condolences to those affected, the franchise pledged a half-million-dollar donation to go towards helping the area bounce back from this scary ordeal.

“Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation and loss of life caused by the floods in Kerr County and Texas Hill Country,” the Cowboys said in a press release. “Especially for the young girls and their families, as well as all of those lost and their loved ones. This has been devastating to see and we hold everyone impacted in our thoughts and prayers. Standing side by side with the Salvation Army’s critical response, we are also donating $500,000 to provide immediate resources for rescue, relief and long term recovery efforts.”

The Cowboys’ act of generosity sparked more people to get involved with doing their part in helping Texas recover from this severe flooding. Later in the day, the NFL announced that the league’s foundation and the Houston Texans are also going to make donations aimed at relief. They intend to match the Cowboys, resulting in a payment of $1.5 million.

Outside of the on-field product, the Cowboys have multiple charitable endeavors to help uplift the community. There is the Jones family foundation, led by owner Jerry Jones, along with the Arlington Youth Foundation. The latter targets youth sports in the city of Arlington, helping provide programs and facilities that focus on health and wellness.

This sizable donation from the Cowboys, Texans, and NFL should go a long way as the state of Texas continues to recover from the floods.
