Yankees Mentioned As Landing Spot For $120 Million Hated Rival

The Boston Red Sox have a few tough decisions to make ahead of the trade deadline. They already made one tough decision when they opted to trade Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants.

Now, Alex Bregman remains among the team’s top trade chips if they decide to sell ahead of the deadline. Could the Red Sox trade Bregman a few months after signing him?

Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer recently suggested the Red Sox would use Bregman as a trade chip. While going through potential suitors, Rymer mentioned the Red Sox’s biggest rival, the New York Yankees, as a fit, but noted it was highly unlikely.

“The Yankees only just moved Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to third base, but they’d surely move him back to second if it meant making way for Bregman,” Rymer wrote. “But a deal of this magnitude between two longstanding rivals? Yeah, right.”

First of all, a Bregman trade doesn’t make too much sense unless a suitor is willing to overpay. The Red Sox have seemingly committed to the superstar at the hot corner, ultimately choosing him over Devers and his bad attitude.

Even if they do opt to trade him, a deal to the Yankees doesn’t make sense for Boston. While these rivals might be able to make a deal happen with a role player like Alex Verdugo, it’s unlikely we’ll see them come together on a deal involving a star like Bregman.

At the end of the day, it’s likely the Yankees look to add a third baseman this season, but it’s unlikely Bregman is their guy.
