A man was shot to death in Compton on the 4th of July, officials confirmed to KTLA during the holiday weekend.

A call regarding a gunshot victim came in at 3:46 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, in the area of Willow and Rosecrans Avenues. Deputies arrived to find an adult male dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately released.

LASD announced Saturday that detectives’ continued investigation unveiled that the man was shot in the 1200 block of North McDivitt Avenue. He then ran to Willow and Rosecrans Avenues, where he collapsed before he was found by deputies.

The suspects, whose identities have also not been disclosed, allegedly fled the scene in their vehicle northbound on McDivitt Avenue.

Deputies arrived to find the man lying in the area, suffering from gunshot wounds. Police did not detail where on his person the man was shot, or how many gunshot injuries he had. The Compton Fire Department soon arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Footage from Citizen.com recorded at around 9 p.m. shows authorities setting up a crime scene in the area, and the victim’s body was covered by a sheet and lifted onto a stretcher while a view of a 4th of July fireworks display could be seen in the background.

“The investigation is ongoing, and currently, there’s no information available at this time,” LASD said in its Saturday release.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. To provide information anonymously, call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477) or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
