EXCLUSIVE: Fans are engaging with Love Island USA more than ever before.
Tuesday night’s fan vote set a new record for the series as the mobile app received more than 1M votes in the first six minutes, per internal data. Once the 2.5-hour voting window closed, the app had received votes from more than 3.5M unique users.
The July 1 episode left the islanders in quite a tense situation after the “Stand on Business” challenge, where they were encouraged to air their grievances with each other in front of the entire villa. By the end of the challenge, everyone was on edge — and fans seemingly had a some strong opinions about it all.
Audiences are typically asked to vote multiple times per season for their favorite islanders, which then impacts who is up for elimination. Unlike other competition series that incorporate fan voting, the Love Island USA app is the only way to engage with the show in this manner. Other series typically allow voting via text, website and more.
In addition to voting, the Love Island USA app has other quizzes and interactive opportunities to engage with fans.
Since the app relaunched in May ahead of Season 7, it has grown an average of more than 100,000 unique users per day — and that number just keeps getting larger. Since Tuesday, the app has added more than 1M new users. As of publication, the app has surpassed 5.5M unique users.
Deadline understands that about 82% of the app users are in the 18-24 demographic, which tracks with the fact that Love Island USA is one of the youngest-skewing titles on Peacock with a majority of viewers under 30.
Season 7 has also been performing particularly well with mobile viewing, boasting Peacock’s biggest mobile audience of all time for an entertainment series with nearly 30% of all viewing for Love Island USA occurring on mobile devices.
This season of Love Island USA has been Peacock’s highest performing yet. After a rocky start to the launch of the U.S. iteration of the reality dating format, the series finally hit a stride in Season 6 that seems to have continued into this summer as well. Last week, Peacock revealed that Love Island USA had reached an audience high as Casa Amor began.
Love Island USA is produced by ITV America. The series is based on a format owned by Lifted Entertainment and GroupM Motion Entertainment and distributed by ITV Studios.
