It’s almost time for one of Southern California’s biggest outdoor holidays, so KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo is taking a look at when an upcoming heat wave is expected to hit.

“You get that Friday Fourth of July and we’re looking at temperatures that are going to be very comfortable for us,” Henry said Thursday morning.

Since it is July, the afternoon temperatures will be warm but they should stay around average or even slightly below, meaning “your upcoming weekend should be fantastic,” Henry said.

July 4th forecast by region:

  • Los Angeles: High of 81 – morning clouds and afternoon sun
  • Orange County Inland: High of 83 – breezy with morning clouds
  • Inland Empire: High of 93 – sunny and breezy
  • San Fernando Valley: High of 91 – morning clouds and afternoon sun

Although the outlook is good for the holiday weekend, the National Weather Service (NWS) warns that a heat wave is headed to Southern California.

“The first significant widespread heatwave of the summer is favored for mid to late next week,” the NWS stated in its Thursday morning forecast.

Triple-digit temperatures are expected to reach the valleys and inland areas, with afternoon highs expected to peak on Wednesday or Thursday.

The heat wave has the potential to continue into next weekend.
