EXCLUSIVE: With a hot Ari Aster movie on the horizon, Eddington actor Matt Gomez Hidaka has just booked a role in Josh Trank’s upcoming horror-thriller, Send A Scare, opposite Victoria Justice and Robbie Amell.

In Eddington, Gomez Hidaka plays Eric Garcia, the son to Pedro Pascal’s mayor Ted Garcia who goes toe-to-toe with the politics of Joaquin Phoenix’s crusty sheriff, Joe Cross. Gomez Hidaka’s Eric is loyal to his father, often giving Joe Cross a hard time in public.

Written by Andrew Ryan and Trank from an original story by Ryan, Send A Scare centers on an interactive horror startup that gives thrill-seekers a way to send scares to friends and family… but when potential investors host a demonstration, the experience gets hijacked by a real masked killer with a deadly agenda. The movie is currently in production.

Gomez Hidaka’s previous credits include the Apple TV+ series Silo. Up next, he will star in Dark Star Pictures’ The Wilderness, written and directed by Spencer King. The film will be released on Oct. 25.

Send A Scare is produced by Ryan Scaringe of Kinogo Pictures and Austin Lantero of Range Media Partners. Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) is set to Executive Produce alongside Justice, Amell, Andrew Ryan, Josh Trank, and Amy Lippens. Range Select is handling domestic sales.

Eddington, Ari Aster’s latest, is a nouveau western, which follows the clash between a small-town Sheriff in New Mexico (Phoenix) and a mayor (Pascal) during Covid when powder keg socio-political issues were ramping up during the first President Donald Trump term. The movie, which also stars Emma Stone and Austin Butler, received a near seven-minute standing ovation at its world premiere at Cannes. Eddington hits theaters on July 18.

Beamed Deadline film critic Damon Wise about the film, “Dressed up as a neo-noir Western, this pandemic saga drips with the kind of biting, dark political humor hardly seen much since the heyday of screenwriter and novelist Terry Southern, author of Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove.”

Gomez Hidaka is repped at Gersh and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
