Travis Kelce candidly revealed he struggled hosting “Saturday Night Live” in March 2023 because he can’t “read that well.”
“The table reading, for a guy that can’t really read that well, it was kind of a f–ked situation,” he said on the “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast on Monday.
“I felt like I was just trying to get through the reading, instead of actually acting it out and giving it a voice and giving it a character and things like that,” he continued.
“Like, I was just focused on, ‘Don’t f–king skip this line,’ you know what I mean? I’m more of an audio guy.”
Still, Kelce, 35, said he treated his hosting duties like a professional because he didn’t want to “look like a loser.”
“I want to make them respect my approach and how I’m like, taking it serious,” he said.
The Super Bowl-winning champ admitted to being “uncomfortable” during recent acting gigs, which includes his role in FX’s “Grotesquerie.” While comedy comes more naturally to him, he shared that he felt “out of place” when it came to taking on more serious fare.
“I don’t feel like I grasped the acting world yet,” he acknowledged.
But the Kansas City Chiefs tight end received rave reviews from his “Grotesquerie” co-star Niecy Nash.
“Travis was very open. He was very open on if there was a note given or a suggestion given,” she told People of his performance in September 2024.
“I love that he didn’t come in trying to act like, ‘I know everything and I know it all,’” she added.
“Grotesquerie” creator Ryan Murphy shared that Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, encouraged him to take the role and also praised his “great discipline.”
“A star is a star is a star — and he’s a star,” Murphy told E! News in September 2024. “He’s so charismatic, and he’s so smart, he’s lovely.”
“The world is his oyster. He can do anything,” Murphy added.
