Yankees Trade Idea Would Solve Rotation Woes With $15.5 Million All-Star

The New York Yankees desperately need to add a starting pitcher ahead of the trade deadline. They’ve fought injuries all season long, yet they haven’t made the necessary upgrades to the roster.

Marcus Stroman is back in the Bronx, and the expectations are quite low. If he performs as poorly as the Yankees’ media seems to believe he will, the Bronx Bombers will need to turn to the trade block to fix the roster issue.

CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson recently suggested the Yankees would be a potential landing spot for Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta in a blockbuster trade.

“While conventional wisdom suggests Peralta, the best starter on a playoff-caliber team, should remain in place, I think there’s reason to include him, if only just in case,” Anderson wrote. “Peralta’s name has populated the rumor mill dating back to the offseason before last, when the Brewers traded Corbin Burnes. He’s now under contract for just one more season, suggesting a move is probably coming at some point before Opening Day 2026.

“The Brewers, who could have more healthy starters than spots by the time the deadline arrives, have shown in the past that they’re willing to operate in a counterculture manner if the right opportunity presents itself. (Remember the Josh Hader trade?) Given the expected state of the market, Peralta could be the top available starter, creating the possibility that the Brewers could leverage other clubs to net an impressive return.”

The Brewers have shown a willingness to trade their stars in the past. This will likely remain consistent with Peralta.

For the Yankees, the only issue would be a lack of prospect depth to pull the deal off.

If the Brewers’ ace hits the market, he’s going to be a hot commodity. With that in mind, the prospect package it would take to land him would likely be quite astounding.

Still, the Yankees could part ways with a top outfield prospect like Spencer Jones as the headliner in a deal like this.
