The Ohio State Buckeyes are entering a 2025 season that comes with high expectations and major questions marks. After Ryan Day and company won the national championship last season, the team has gone through a lot of change.

Quite a few of the main pieces from last season have gone on to the NFL. Among those players was quarterback Will Howard.

After beginning the 2024 season as a major question mark for the Buckeyes, Howard became a huge reason they won a championship. He went on to be drafted in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

To replace him, Ohio State is expected to turn to young signal caller Julian Sayin. He transferred to the Buckeyes from Alabama last year and has elite potential.

Sayin has the good fortune of playing in an offense absolutely loaded with talent.

Leading the way for Ohio State will be star sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. There are many who believe that he will be a potential No. 1 overall pick candidate when he heads to the NFL.

Smith spoke out about his new quarterback. It’s clear that he is a huge fan of what Sayin brings to the field.

“That arm is different,” Smith said. “He can make any and every throw. Just a smart quarterback. Like me, he’s a little quiet. He’s starting to come out of his shell. He’s definitely going to be a guy. It’s going to be scary for opponents.”

Outside of Smith, there are plenty of weapons as well. Carnell Tate is also a legitimate NFL talent and showed some of that potential last season. In addition, the Buckeyes were able to land a talented tight end in Max Klare during the transfer portal window.

Brandon Inniss is a talented wideout, as is freshman Quincy Porter.

There are some questions about Ohio State’s running game. The team lost both TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins to the NFL Draft. Day brought in CJ Donaldson via the transfer portal and James Peoples will be back with an increased role as well.

Overall, the Buckeyes look like a team who should be very good offensively. If Sayin can live up to his talent and potential, Ohio State will be a contender.

It will be interesting to see if he’s able to take over as the Buckeyes’ starter and become the Heisman candidate some expect him to be in his first year under center in Columbus.
