Alison Brie (G.L.O.W., Community) has been cast as the lead of FX‘s Untitled Witness Protection pilot from Hannah Fidell and Gina Welch (Clipped), who joins as co-showrunner, writer and executive producer. David Chase was previously attached, but has stepped back because he is prepping to shoot a new movie at the top of next year.

Fidell will direct the pilot, and Nicole Lambert of Riverain Pictures will executive produce.

As Deadline previously shared, the project is based on a previously un-produced script by Chase and will feature a contemporary take. FX Productions will produce the pilot.

In the Untitled Witness Protection pilot, a violent confrontation drives a high-end DC madame to turn on her partner and enter witness protection in seaside Maine with her adolescent daughter.

Brie is a SAG Award-winning actress and two-time Golden Globe nominee. She most recently starred opposite Annette Bening in the Peacock series adaptation of the Liane Moriarty novel, Apples Never Fall, in Dave Franco’s Somebody I Used to Know which she co-wrote, produced and stars alongside Amy Sedaris and Jay Ellis, and in Jeff Baena’s Spin Me Round, which she co-wrote, produced and stars opposite Alessandro Nivola, Molly Shannon and Aubrey Plaza.

She recently wrapped production on the Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action feature, Masters of the Universe as ‘Evil-Lyn’, and will next star in and produce the feature, Together, opposite Dave Franco, which made its debut at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, selling to Neon. The film will be released on July 30. She is represented by WME, Rise Management, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

Welch was the creator and EP on FX’s Clipped, nominated for the 2024 Peabody Award. She is repped by Untitled, CAA and Johnson/Shapiro/Slewett/Koleby.
