We at KTLA 5 continue to honor the career and legacy of our dear Sam Rubin.
While he was widely known for his celebrity interviews on the red carpet and the KTLA 5 Morning News, off-camera, he was a champion for anyone who was interested in broadcast journalism. Over the years, he mentored, encouraged and advised countless individuals who went on to achieve great success in both television news and the entertainment industry.
To continue the great work he started, we at KTLA have announced the Sam Rubin Memorial Scholarship, which pays tribute to that legacy of nurturing and fostering young talent.
Students who are currently studying journalism and demonstrate a strong interest in entertainment news are encouraged to apply.
The list of requirements can be found here:
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university in Southern California. If they attend college outside of Southern California, they must show that they graduated from a high school in the Greater Los Angeles area.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate that journalism is their specific field of study. This can be accomplished through a declared major, class selection, or extracurricular activities.
- Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in entertainment journalism by submitting a written essay. They may also choose to include a video resume as an optional supplement.
- Academic Achievement will be taken into consideration and applicants must submit a transcript reflective of current academic standings.
