PHOENIX — Initial reports suggest the man who allegedly started a wildfire in Idaho to lure first responders and fatally shot two firefighters on Sunday has ties to the Phoenix area.
CNN initially reported that 20-year-old Wess Roley, who is suspected of setting a fire in a northern Idaho mountain community, has ties to the Valley.

The outlet uncovered data from a running website saying he ran track at North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, which is near 32nd Street and Greenway Road.
He also was a member of the school’s class of 2024, according to the website.
The school is within the Great Hearts Academies, a nonprofit network of public charter schools.

Authorities with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho said the shootout began after responding firefighters asked Roley to move his vehicle.
Although firefighters took cover behind fire trucks, he allegedly opened fire for several hours, killing two and injuring another, according to the Associated Press.
He later killed himself, according to Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris.
