Widely scattered showers & storms to start the week

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The unsettled weather the Tennessee Valley has been experiencing lately is expected to continue for the start of the new week. Widely scattered showers and storms are forecast to continue on Monday.

On Tuesday, a cold front is forecast to move through the region, supporting another chance of showers and storms. Behind this front, drier air moves in, allowing for more sunshine on Thursday and Friday.

Monday will start mainly dry, though a pop-up shower will be possible. The better chance for widely scattered rain and storms will come by midday and continue through the evening hours. Storms are forecast to remain sub-severe, but isolated strong storms will be possible.

Storms that develop on Monday and Tuesday will be capable of producing winds over 40 mph, frequent lightning, small hail, and locally heavy rain. If you have any outdoor plans, stay weather aware and be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Multiple rounds of showers and storms led to some areas receiving three to four inches of rain over the past three days. With some cells being slow movers or nearly stationary, flash flooding was an issue.

With pockets of moderate to heavy rain forecast Monday and Tuesday, The Weather Authority will be monitoring the potential for localized flash flooding. An additional one to two inches of rain will be possible where the strongest cells set up.

Areas that are prone to flooding and low-lying areas will need to be monitored closely. We will also need to monitor small creeks, rivers, and streams.

Heat & Humidity Returns for the Fourth of July Holiday

Heading towards the Fourth of July Holiday, an upper-level system will begin to build back into the region. The ridge overhead will support the return of a hot and humid airmass across the Deep South. High temperatures will reach into the low to mid-90s beginning Friday and continuing into the weekend.

The high humidity will support the heat index nearing 100 degrees.

Friday, at this vantage point, will be mainly dry and sunny. Isolated showers and storms will return to the forecast by the weekend.

Stick with The Weather Authority for the latest on this week’s rain chance.
