Randle’s deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.
Randle is expected to remain in Minnesota on a long-term deal following his trade to the Timberwolves ahead of the 2024-25 season. The 30-year-old was traded to Minnesota in September 2024 from the New York Knicks along with teammate Donte DiVincenzo as part of a three-team trade with the Charlotte Hornets that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks.
The three-time All-Star had a strong first year with the team, posting averages of 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while shooting 48.5 percent from the floor over 69 regular-season games. His new contract also features a player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
Randle will head into his 12th season in the league and his second with the Timberwolves. His first season with the team was stellar as he did his part to lead Minnesota to its second consecutive Western Conference Finals appearance. They fell in five games to the eventual champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
In the postseason, Randle was phenomenal, averaging 21.7 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 0.8 steals while shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range in 15 games and 35.5 minutes of action.
This marks the second major move for the Timberwolves this offseason. Their other standout big man, Naz Reid, recently inked a massive five-year, $125 million contract to stay in Minnesota, signaling the team’s commitment to keeping its core intact.
There were questions about whether the Timberwolves would be able to keep both, but the team quickly shut that down, as they are able to keep two of their core frontcourt players.
While these signings are vital to the team, it pushes the team to the brink of the second tax apron for the 2025-26 season. With that being said, it is more likely than not that their key guard, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, will sign with another team as he is an unrestricted free agent.
The Timberwolves finished as the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference. They will look to build on their stellar run this upcoming season, led by Anthony Edwards, Randle, Reid, and Rudy Gobert.
