Eagles Urged to Sign Veteran Wide Receiver Ahead of 2025 Season

Fresh off winning their second Super Bowl over the last seven years, the Philadelphia Eagles are widely viewed to have one of the deepest rosters in the NFL. Despite this, one analyst tossed out the idea of making some final adjustments ahead of their quest to try and repeat as champions.

At the wide receiver position, the Eagles are led by an elite duo of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. While both players are high-impact talents, their depth quickly gets thin. Young players like Jahan Dotson have shown promise, but nobody has emerged as a primary third option. Because of this, one analyst proposed the idea of Howie Roseman addressing this void in the roster ahead of training camp.

In a recent column for ESPN, Aaron Schatz tossed out a final move for each NFL team before the 2025 campaign gets underway. When diving into the Eagles, he suggested they sign veteran wideout Tyler Boyd.

“One thing the Eagles could use is more depth at the wide receiver position, particularly a slot receiver who can open underneath and convert third downs,” Schatz wrote. “Boyd had just 39 catches for 390 yards with Tennessee last season, but he was an important part of the Bengals’ offense from 2016 to 2023. Jahan Dotson feels like he’s in a better position to be productive in his second season in the Eagles’ offense, but Boyd would provide a strong backup in case Dotson is not.

After a strong eight-year tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals, Boyd moved on to the Tennessee Titans last season. The change of scenery did not work out well for him, as his production saw a sizable dip. Boyd totaled a career-low 390 yards and failed to find the end zone.

Even though he finds himself without a home on a roster at the moment, Boyd is not hitting the panic button. During a recent interview, he opened up on his free agency process. Boyd expects to garner interest across the league and intends to weigh all his options.

“I know camps are starting, so within the next couple of weeks I’m gonna have more teams having more interest and I’ll go from there,” Boyd said.

With the 2025 season around the corner, only time will tell if the Eagles end up being among the teams inquiring about Boyd’s services.
