ALABAMA (WHNT) — Forty-three women are competing for the role of Miss Alabama 2025. After three days of preliminary competitions, who will wear the crown and sash next?
The Miss Alabama competition dates back all the way to 1921, with the first winner as Lois Wilson. Since the start of this competition, four Miss Alabama winners have also won the title of Miss America:
- 1950 Miss Alabama, Yolande Betbeze – Miss America 1951
- 1994 Miss Alabama, Heather Whitestone – Miss America 1995
- 2004 Miss Alabama, Deidre Downs – Miss America 2025
- 2024 Miss Alabama, Abbie Stockard – Miss America 2025
At the beginning, there were four women from Alabama who competed at Miss America: Miss Alabama, Miss Birmingham, Miss Montgomery and Miss Mobile. The primary title changed permanently to Miss Alabama after 1946.
Miss America 2025, Abbie Stockard, will come back home to crown the next Miss Alabama on Saturday following finals.
All 43 contestants for the 2025 competition arrived in Birmingham earlier in the week. The north Alabama area representatives are:
While these are the north Alabama title holders, there are a few competitors who are from the Tennessee Valley with titles in other areas of the state:
- Ellie Everett, Miss Covered Bridge, is from Muscle Shoals
- Ashley Gattis, Miss Autauga County Fair, is from Union Grove
- Jessica Westmoreland, Miss Southeast Alabama, is from Rainsville
- Anna Grace Tucker, Miss Southern Union, is from Huntsville
- Abby Sosa, Miss Hidden River, is from Cullman
The Miss America Alabama Instagram page has been posting updates following the daily competitions. When the title holders arrived, several groups were awarded as finalists in two categories: Community Service and STEM.
Harper Howard, Miss Shoals Area, Lauren Vance, Miss Tennessee Valley and Caroline Coleman, Miss University of North Alabama, were all named as 2025 STEM finalists. Jessica Westmoreland, Miss Southeast Alabama, was also named as a finalist in this division.
For the three days of preliminary competitions, contestants were split into three groups: Mighty Mu, Alpha Birdie and Sassy Sigma.
For night 2 of preliminary competitions, Lauren Vance, Miss Tennessee Valley, tied with Evie Smith, Miss Vestavia Hills, for talent in the Alpha group.
