Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez were married in Venice, Italy, on Friday. Vogue published the exclusive on the bride’s wedding dress (Dolce & Gabbana lace, inspired by a dress worn by Sophia Loren), People confirmed the nuptials, and, finally, Sánchez’s Instagram account rebooted under her married name Lauren Sánchez Bezos.
The wedding kicked off with Matteo Bocelli performing a rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley, according to People. Guests included Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Leonardo DiCaprio, Usher, Tom Brady, and Bill Gates. According to Vogue, the afterparty will be a pajama party, with Sánchez Bezos in Atelier Versace. “I am the luckiest woman on the planet,” Sanchez Bezos told writer Chloe Malle.
The much-anticipated wedding was part of a three-day celebration that inspired protests from locals disappointed to see their sinking city chosen as a billionaire’s wedding backdrop. Given the protests and security concerns, according to People, Bezos and his new bride relocated their wedding location, from Scuola Grande della Misericordia to the Italian island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
Previously, Venice mayor Luigi Brugnaro assured the world that he and the Bezos wedding party were “mutually working and supporting the organizers, to ensure that the event will be absolutely respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city.”
To thank Venice for hosting them, according to the Associated Press, Bezos, the world’s third-richest person, sourced about 80 percent of their supplies from Venetian vendors. Additionally, the couple asked their guests to make financial donations to the city of Venice instead of giving them wedding gifts.
