EXCLUSIVE: It has been two years since its first reviews and festival play, but Spinning Gold, the music biopic about Casablanca Records and founder Neil Bogart, has secured U.S. digital distribution via Synkronized.

Written and directed by Timothy Scott Bogart, the movie charts the rags-to-riches story of celebrated 1970s indie label Casablanca Records, which helped launch legendary artists including Kiss, Donna Summer, George Clinton’s Parliament, The Isley Brothers, Gladys Knight, Bill Withers and the Village People.

Starring in the movie are Jeremy Jordan, Michelle Monaghan, Lyndsy Fonseca, Jason Isaacs, Dan Fogler, James Wolk, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Georgio Moroder, as well as music artists such as Jason Derulo as Ron Isley, Wiz Khalifa as George Clinton, Ledisi as Gladys Knight, Pink Sweats as Bill Withers, and Casey Likes as Gene Simmons.

Pic is produced by Timothy Scott Bogart, Jessica Martins and Chris Torto. Storyboard Media Sales brokered the sale on behalf of the producers. Synkronized is expected to start discussions with streamers and online partners in coming weeks. Universal previously acquired theatrical rights and gave the film a limited run.

The project was many years in the making. A version of the film being put together back in 2013 had Justin Timberlake attached to star.

“On Synkronized’s 25th birthday as a distributor, what better than the ultimate success story of an independent label, in an industry dominated by the Majors” stated Alex Cohen, CEO of Synkronized.

Added Bogart: “Music is such an important part of all of us. The film explores how this music that we all still listen to today, was really created, as a group of remarkable people defy all expectations to make all their dreams come true. Working with Alex and his team, who all share that same extraordinary drive to pave their own path, has been the perfect partner, and we look forward to the road ahead!”
