  • The hotel’s interior design blends restored original 1943 details, such as terrazzo and brass, with &Tradition furniture and a palette of bold and neutral colors.
  • Petra Hotel offers 40 uniquely styled rooms, along with a welcoming lobby and the Petra Bar & Restaurant, aiming to connect international travelers with the local community.

Danish design brand &Tradition has collaborated with Copenhagen Design Hotels to open a new hotel inside a 1940s architectural gem.

Located near the city’s King’s Garden, the Petra hotel is set within a building designed by renowned architect Kay Fisker. In homage to the original scheme, the brand has worked to restore original details from 1943, including terrazzo flooring and brass fittings, while updating spaces with &Tradition furniture. “This approach ensures that Petra’s interiors maintain a deep connection to the past while offering a refined and contemporary hotel stay,” &Tradition said.

Guests enter the hotel via Dronningens Tvaergade and are welcomed at the hotel lobby. In true &Tradition style, the color palette sees a couple of bold hues paired with classic neutrals. A bright blue bookshelf by Jaime Hayon brightens up a small seating area, and a changing programme of artworks hangs on the walls.

Also downstairs is the Petra Bar & Restaurant, which welcomes both guests and locals. It was important for &Tradition that the hotel, and this space in particular, felt familiar and casual. “Petra’s warm and welcoming atmosphere brings together international travellers and the local community,” they say. “Every detail, from the design of the space to the lighting and sound, is carefully curated to shift the mood. It’s a place to unwind, raise a glass, and order dessert—a setting where the pace slows and appreciation for the moment takes over.

Guests can choose from 40 rooms across the hotel, each of which comes with their unique styling. Sizes differ, and as such, custom cabinetry and furniture (including beds designed specifically for the hotel by OEO Studio) have been used.

All hotel signage and in-room stationery have been designed by All The Way To Paris – a graphic design studio that frequently collaborates with &Tradition on both products and branding.

Petra first opened its doors during this year’s 3daysofdesign festival, and is now open for bookings. Head to the website to find out more.
