To commemorate its role as the official timekeeper of the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, Seiko unveils a special edition Prospex Speedtimer: the SSC955, distinguished by its striking Edo Purple dial. Historically associated with nobility, the hue also serves as the official color of the championships — paying tribute to Tokyo’s cultural heritage as well we Seiko’s longstanding legacy in precision sports timing.
Housed in a 39mm stainless steel case, the watch features a panda-style layout with black chronograph subdials set against a soft, sunray-finished purple backdrop. Faceted black indices and matte black sword-style hands filled with Lumibrite enhance legibility, while a fixed black tachymeter bezel adds a bold, functional edge.
Powered by Seiko’s solar V192 movement, the SSC955 offers a 60-minute chronograph, 24-hour indicator and a power reserve of up to six months on a full charge. It features a commemorative case back, meticulously engraved with the Tokyo 2025 logo as well as the watch’s unique edition number, further highlighting its special status.
Completing the design is a three-link stainless steel bracelet with polished center links and a push-button clasp. Limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide, the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SSC955 will retail for £650 GBP (approx. $891 USD). Now available for pre-order, the watch will be officially released in August 2025 through Seiko’s UK webstore, boutiques, as well as select retailers.
