Summary

  • Anna Wintour steps down from Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue after 37 years leading the magazine since 1988. Wintour will remain with Condé Nast as chief content officer for Condé Nast and global editorial director at Vogue.

Marking the end to her almost 40-year tenure, Vogue has announced that Anna Wintour will step down from her post as American Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief. However, Wintour will remain on board as chief content officer for Condé Nast and global editorial director, Vogue.

According to an original report from WWD, Anna Wintour shared with her staffers that a new head of editorial content will take her place at American Vogue. Now 75 years old, Wintour took the helm at American Vogue in 1988.

The change is not as much of a departure, as it is a change in strategy. Per WWD, Wintour will continue to oversee all of Condé Nast’s publications, including Wired, Vanity Fair, GQ, AD, Condé Nast Traveler, Glamour, Bon Appetit, Tatler, World of Interiors, and Allure, with the exception of The New Yorker, which is overseen by David Remnick. The legendary editor’s hand will still very much remain in the workings of Vogue and the publisher’s other names.

As of the time of writing, a new American Vogue Editor-in-Chief has not been announced.
