UPDATED, June 25: A fourth trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four: The First Steps has arrived.
Right as the quartet is about to take the stage on The Ted Gilbert Show, which we’ve seen in previous clips, they get alerts on their retro wristbands. The same alert comes as they are about to sit down to dinner. Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer then floats out of the darkness to “herald his beginning” meaning Galactus.
There are also several attempts in the clip to get The Thing to say “It’s clobberin’ time!” which he repeatedly asserts is from the comics and not something he likes to say.
Previous, April 17: Featuring a “retro-futuristic, 1960s vibe” – and apparently a new addition to what Marvel calls its First Family – the new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has just dropped from Marvel Studios.
The clip introduces Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), as, per the official synopsis, the group faces “their most daunting challenge yet.
“Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond,” the synopsis continues, “they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
Highlights of the trailer include celebration of the pregnancy of Sue Storm — who assures Reed Richards, “We can do this. Nothing’s going to change” — and the closest look yet at Silver Surfer, who is here to ensure that everything will change.
One of the most anticipated films of the year, marking the first title in Phase Six of the MCU, The Fantastic Four is slated to hit theaters on July 25. Others in the cast include Paul Walter-Hauser, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles. Marvel alum Matt Shakman (WandaVision) directed from a script by Eric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, with Kevin Feige producing for Marvel Studios. Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis and Tim Lewis served as executive producers.
