EXCLUSIVE: Steven Caple Jr., best known for directing tentpoles as Creed II and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, has just launched his production banner, Grey Skies, setting up his first project, Ghost Fleet under his new first-look deal at Paramount. Caple Jr. has also named Jeannette Francis, formerly VP of Production at Bad Robot, as Grey Skies’ EVP of Development and Production, overseeing the company’s growing slate.
Based on the critically acclaimed Dark Horse comic book created by Donny Cates with art by Daniel Warren Johnson, Ghost Fleet will be adapted by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer as a directing vehicle for Caple Jr. Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg of Dark Horse Entertainment are producing alongside Grey Skies.
The comic follows a high-stakes mission to transport dangerous cargo leads two men into the heart of a conspiracy that could destroy them both. Grey Skies is also currently producing the Man On Fire series, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen, for Netflix, and I Am Legend 2, set to star Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan for Warner Bros.
Caple Jr. has quickly become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after filmmakers. Directing both film and television, his signature touch and artistic lens has landed him multiple directorial awards as well as a name on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2018. Caple is currently in post-production on the highly anticipated Netflix series, Man On Fire. Caple serves as EP on the show as well as directing the opening block.
Feature wise, he most recently directed Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which was released on June 9, 2023, by Paramount Pictures. Notably, Caple helmed Creed II starring Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson.
