Daisy Edgar-Jones is getting her own Jane Austen moment. The actor just announced that she’s starring in an upcoming adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, Austen’s beloved first novel about two sisters whose wildly different views of and responses to love are at odds.
Some (me) will say that Sense and Sensibility has already been done perfectly—in the 1995 film directed by Ang Lee and starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, specifically—and question how there could be any room for improvement. But! History shows we should keep an open mind. Colin Firth’s take on Mr. Darcy in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries is my gold standard, but my literal favorite movie ever is the 2005 adaptation from director Joe Wright with Keira Knightley. I love Gwyneth Paltrow and Toni Colette in their Emma, but director Autumn de Wilde and actor Anya Taylor-Joy gave us an even bolder and more striking vision in 2020. There’s room for all, is what I’m saying.
So, what can we expect from this Daisy Edgar-Jones version of Sense and Sensibility? At the moment, we don’t know much…but here’s what we were able to find. We’ll keep updating as more information becomes available, obviously.
Who is in the cast of Sense and Sensibility?
Daisy Edgar-Jones announced her new role as most starlets do these days: on Instagram. The Normal People and Twisters actor posted a selfie of herself with a well-worn copy of the novel and the eyes emojis.

Shortly after, Focus Features and Working Title Films confirmed the casting with a press release. While the release didn’t explicitly say who Edgar-Jones will be playing, I think it’s most likely Elinor. The older, more reserved Dashwood sister is the meatier role—it’s who Emma Thompson played—as the novel mostly follows her experiences and point of view.
No other actors have been announced at this time.
Who is directing and writing?
According to a press release, Georgia Oakley will be directing. She’s best known for earning a BAFTA nomination for her writing and directing debut feature, Blue Jean.
The script comes from best-selling author Diana Reid, whose past works include the books Love & Virtue, Seeing Other People, and Signs of Damage.
When can I watch Sense and Sensibility?
That also is yet to be announced, so likely 2026 or 2027 at the earliest. Stay tuned! In the meantime, might be a good time to reread Sense and Sensibility…
