A two-vehicle crash on the I-15 Freeway left nine people hospitalized on Sunday morning in San Bernardino County, officials say.

It happened in the southbound lanes north of Baker, according to San Bernardino County Fire. The department did not reveal how the vehicles collided, but photos posted to X show two severely damaged cars in the brush off the side of the freeway.

One black sedan is seen with extensive front-end damage, and the other car – possibly a silver or gray Prius – is seen covered in dirt with front and top-end damage, and a crushed roof and windshield. The photos did not show the backside of either car.

“County Fire responded to a two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 this morning, commanding a scene that ultimately led to nine patients transported to regional hospitals, including four by medical helicopter,” the department said.

Officials said that although there was no fire or need for extrications, it was determined that all nine adults needed medical treatment and transport for injuries that ranged from moderate to severe. The patents’ identities and statuses were not revealed.

“Four ground ambulances and three medical helicopters were dispatched, with traffic shut down as each was landed on the freeway,” read the department’s X post. “A fourth helicopter was dispatched later to meet one of the ground ambulances at a local hospital to continue transport from there.”

San Bernardino County Fire said that the freeway has since been reopened to traffic.
