Vice President JD Vance is traveling to Los Angeles on Friday, as recent enforcement of the Trump administration’s immigration policies has caused ongoing unrest and protests across the city.

Vance is expected to tour a multi-agency Federal Joint Operation Center and a Federal Mobile Command Center when he arrives in L.A.

He is also scheduled to meet with leadership and the Marines before delivering brief remarks, according to a news release from the White House.

The Vice President’s visit comes amid ongoing upheaval across the city over U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents’ operations and deportations.

Earlier this month, Vance posted on social media about the demonstrations.

“Insurrectionists carrying foreign flags are attacking immigration enforcement officers, while one half of America’s political leadership has decided that border enforcement is evil,” his June 7 post on X reads.

Meanwhile, local politicians including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom have spoken out publicly against the administration’s use of the military in Los Angeles, saying it was uncalled for and only enflamed the situation.

“The federal government coming in and taking authority away from the governor when it was not requested, because it was not needed, is an incredible overreach of the authority of the president,” Bass said in a June 10 interview.

Gov. Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta filed an emergency motion to stop what they called an “unlawful militarization” of Los Angeles.
