Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who ran over a man at a gas station in Sun Valley.
On June 17, the male suspect, who was driving a dark-colored Hummer EV SUV, entered an Arco gas station on Roscoe and Laurel Canyon Boulevards around 5:10 a.m.
The victim, a male transient, was lying on the ground and appeared to be sleeping between two parking stalls at the time, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
While driving toward the convenience store, the suspect ran over the man lying on the ground. The driver only stopped to pick up someone who was waiting outside before driving away. They did not stop to check on the victim.
Officers responded to the gas station, where they found the victim dead at the scene with blood on his face.
LAPD released surveillance video of the suspect’s SUV driving away. No further details, including the victim’s name, were released.
“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” LAPD said.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available to anyone who provides information leading to the suspect’s identification, apprehension, and conviction.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information on the case is asked to call LAPD Valley Traffic Division Officer Gallo at 818-644-8119 or Detective II Barragan at 818-644-8028.
The public can also call the LAPD at 1-877-527-3247. Anonymous tips can be provided to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
