FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Friday morning marked a special and historic day for 20-year-old Grayson Murray and for the people of Franklin County.

Grayson was recently appointed by Governor Kay Ivey, filling the vacancy left by his father, Mike Murray, who passed away unexpectedly.

“I just got sworn in to take over my dad’s old seat for county commission for District 1, it was a good moment, I got to get sworn in by my grandma,” Murray said.

Grayson’s father, Mike, was elected and sworn in back in November. Grayson said it was his father’s passion to serve in the District 1 seat.

“That was probably the proudest I’ve ever seen him is when he won, he was very excited to get into it and help people in the county, he was very passionate about it too,” Murray said.

Now, Grayson is continuing his dad’s legacy in the commission seat.

“He worked for the school system for as long as I was alive, and I’m actually going to UNA for education, so I’d love to have a focus on the schools and the education system here in the county,” Murray said.

Grayson wants the people of Franklin County to know he is here to help, serve and continue what his father started.

“I want everyone to know I’m truly trying to make a positive impact, and I really came here to do kind of what my dad would do and just be here to help people,” Murray said.

Grayson is also the youngest person to serve as a commissioner in Franklin County.
