LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Authorities say no one was injured after a house fire in East Limestone County.

East Limestone Fire Department, along with five other fire departments, responded to the fire Thursday afternoon in the area of Capshaw Road and McCulley Mill Road.

East Limestone Fire Chief Tony Kirk said the fire started in the attic of the split-level home. He said three people, a mother and two teenagers, were in the home at the time of the fire, but none of the three were injured.

“One of the family members said she thought she had a little too much smoke, but didn’t nobody go to the hospital,” Kirk said. “EMS has been here and checked them all out, and everybody’s fine.”

He said the family wouldn’t likely be displaced for some time due to the damage to the house.

The chief said the heat and the humidity made it difficult for firefighters to work during the fire, which crews were able to keep to the attic.

“Firefighters weren’t able to work but a few minutes at a time,” he said. “They would have to come out and rehab. We just had to keep calling firefighters in so we had enough people to keep rotating in and out while they cooled down.”

Kirk said the fire was contained after an hour and a half. He said crews were still working to control hot spots around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
