The unlikely friendship between a pet pig and a senior dog has melted hearts, with internet users unable to cope with their precious bond.
Pigs are known for being highly intelligent and social animals who thrive in a group environment. While most pigs enjoy the company of other, well pigs, the same can’t be said for Maple, who has a very unexpected bestie.
In an adorable video posted on her dedicated TikTok account (@maplenotbacon), Maple the pet pig can be seen cuddling up to her closest companion, a blind senior chihuahua. As Maple squeezed onto the bed beside the tiny dog, she was cautious to be gentle and not to disturb her buddy who was already asleep.
TikTok users can’t get enough of the sweet video, which has generated over 52,200 views and more than 10,400 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
Layered over the video, the caption reads: “the way she’s always so gentle with him. He’s just a blind old man.”
This certainly wasn’t just a one-off for Maple either, as her owner, from Oklahoma, regularly shares clips of the pig cuddling up to the chihuahua on social media. They can often be found snoozing together on the dog bed, which really isn’t made for a large pig, but somehow, she makes it work.
While Maple’s undeniable bond with the senior dog may seem unlikely, pigs like to be part of a group and to have an animal family they belong to. According to the Humane Society, they are best suited to small, matriarchal groups of between 1 and 6 sows as well as their young.
It’s also no secret that pigs have large and well-developed brains, which enables them to be inquisitive about the world around them. They can learn from experience and combine new information with what they recall, the Humane Society explains.
Ultimately, pigs are complex animals who are capable of feeling a range of emotions, often influenced by their physical and social surroundings.
They can pick up on cues around them, and can thrive in the right environment, especially when they have buddies by their side. It doesn’t matter if they’re surrounded by other pigs, or a senior chihuahua.

Since the clip of Maple cuddling up to her best canine friend was shared online, plenty of TikTok users took to the comments to hail their adorable friendship.
Among the responses, one TikTok user wrote: “Animals intentionally showing each other kindness makes me cry every time.”
Another person replied: “Two gentle souls that deserve each other.”
Another comment reads: “Maximum coziness.”
While one commenter added: “Awww, she said lemme scootch right in here with ya.”
