The wedding of the world’s third-richest man (as of June 2025), Jeff Bezos, and Lauren Sánchez, the former TV journalist to whom he has been engaged since 2023 and briefly sent to space, is almost here. Reports ahead of the big Bezos wedding day(s) predict a three-day celebration in Venice, Italy, with a price tag in the millions—and possible protests from locals none too pleased that their city is playing host to the event. Venetians worry about their floating home: Venice has sunk about 5.9 inches in the last century, as water levels around it have also risen, and a surge of visitors, they say, certainly can’t improve the situation.
All eyes are on the celebration due to the wealth and notoriety of all those involved, waiting with bated breath to see just how many bridal looks Sánchez will don throughout the festivities, how many people from the billionaire list show up, and more. Consider the multi-day celebration—longer than an Amazon Prime shipping window!—this summer’s equivalent of 2024’s ultra-lavish Ambani wedding.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Sánchez-Bezos wedding, the couple’s history, and the reactions of those local to their chosen wedding destination.
When and where are Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez getting married?
Save the date: Sánchez and Bezos will reportedly tie the knot in a three-day celebration from June 24 to 26, a spokesperson for the mayor of Venice told CNN, inviting a roster of A-list guests and heavy hitters to the Italian island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. In March, the city of Venice issued a statement confirming that the couple would wed there, estimating a guest count of around 200. Whether that head count is accurate is yet to be seen, of course, but Venice mayor Luigi Brugnaro assured the world, via the statement, that “we are mutually working and supporting the organizers, to ensure that the event will be absolutely respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city.”
This isn’t floating with many locals, who have papered the city with images including Bezos’s head on a rocket, zooming away from their city.
Have Bezos or Sánchez been married before? Do they have kids?
Bezos, 61, and Sánchez, 55, have both been previously married. Bezos was married to Mackenzie Scott from 1993 to 2019; they have four children together, Preston Bezos and two more sons and a daughter whose names and birthdates they’ve never publicly revealed. Sánchez was married to Patrick Whitesell from 2005 to 2019. They share daughter Ella Whitesell and the University of Miami–bound Evan Whitesell. Sánchez is also mother to Nikko Gonzalez, born in 2001, with Sánchez’s then partner, football player Tony Gonzalez.
In January 2023, Sánchez told the WSJ that it’s important for the couple to spend time with all their kids together as a blended family. “On a typical Saturday, we hang out, we have dinner with the kids, which is always fun because you never know where the conversation is going to go with this many kids,” she said.
When did Bezos and Sánchez become a couple?
Bezos and Sánchez made their debut as a couple in 2019 amidst both of their divorces from their former partners. They ran in similar circles socially before things turned romantic, and People confirmed their new relationship early in the year. In February 2020, Bezos announced the launch of the Bezos Earth Fund to fight the climate crisis. Bezos is the fund’s chair, and Sánchez is vice chair.
The pair has been spotted around the world for philanthropic work and vacation play, making appearances at White House state dinners, the Met Gala, and onboard Bezos’s yacht Koru, which reportedly cost an estimated $500 million, and whose figurehead some have said resembles none other than Sánchez. (“I’m very flattered, but it’s not,” Sánchez told Vogue.) The yacht was also the site of their May 2023 engagement, as well as an engagement party attended by the likes of Bill Gates and Wendi Murdoch. Bezos, who is Amazon’s largest shareholder and owns The Washington Post, and Sánchez are also friendly with Donald Trump, and even popped over to Mar-a-Lago to have dinner with him pre-inauguration.
How did Bezos pop the question? Did Sánchez have a bachelorette party?
There certainly have been a few marital milestones for the couple ahead of their wedding in the floating city. The two, as mentioned, were engaged at sea. Sánchez told Vogue that Bezos hid the box containing the 30-carat cushion cut pink diamond dazzler, set in platinum, under her pillow and proposed after an intimate dinner, after she’d taken off her makeup. “When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit,” she said.
In May 2025, Sánchez and members of her girl gang also took to the seafaring life in honor of her bachelorette weekend, including a private chartered champagne cruise on the Seine among their activities. Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Eva Longoria, Katy Perry, and more took to Paris for a highly Instagrammed weekend of revelry and novelty purses.
Who’s on the guest list?
Along with so many other details, including the date of the ceremony itself (in late 2024, rumors that the pair would wed in Aspen over the holidays ran rampant and were ultimately false), the 200-ish-person guest list is under wraps. The attendees at the engagement celebrations and Sánchez’s bachelorette party, however, suggest that we can probably expect celebrities, philanthropists, business leaders, and politicians among the well-wishers. Koru the yacht is also expected to be present for the festivities.
Those lucky guests will enjoy local fare and design, the Associated Press reported: Rosa Salva, the oldest pastry business in Venice, has been commissioned to bake treats for goody bags, and design company Laguna B, known for their artisanal blown glass creations, has also been contracted for services in relation to the wedding.
Does Bezos have a prenup?
The billionaire’s team has reportedly drawn up a complex prenuptial agreement for Bezos and Sánchez. When Bezos and his first wife, Scott, divorced in 2019, Scott was awarded an estimated $38 billion in Amazon stock in the settlement. When the two wed in 1993, Amazon hadn’t yet launched, leading to a massive change in financial status during the marriage. Scott has reportedly donated about $19 billion to nonprofits and charitable organizations since the divorce.
One thing Sánchez has confirmed she’ll be taking, in addition to Bezos’s ring, is his name.
As she told Vogue, “Uh, yes, one hundred percent. I am looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos.”
