PHOENIX — Police are investigating after a husband and wife were found shot dead in their northern Arizona home on Sunday.

Troy Templeton, 62, and Cynthia Templeton, 53, were members of the Arizona Rangers, a spokesperson with the armed law enforcement unit told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday.

Officers with the Snowflake-Taylor Police Department found their bodies after responding to a welfare check concerning their open front door, police said.

The home is in Taylor, a town about 180 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix in Navajo County.

The Arizona Rangers are a uniformed unit that provides law enforcement assistance to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in the state.

Snowflake-Taylor Police Chief Robert Martin said this tragic incident shook the community.

“Our hearts go out to the loved ones of Troy and Cynthia during this incredibly difficult time,” Martin said in a Tuesday announcement.

“The senseless violence that took their lives has no place in our community, and we are committed to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice.”

Detectives with Snowflake-Taylor police are working with investigators from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office and the police departments of Show Low and Winslow.

Authorities are pursuing several strong leads and urge anyone with information about the case to contact detectives at 928-536-7500.
