HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The unsettled weather pattern continues across the area this week as multiple disturbances move through the region. Along with this, expect the uncomfortable conditions to stick around as well.
In the days ahead, the best chances for rain and storms will be during the peak heating hours of the day. With plenty of heat and moisture in place, it will create a favorable environment for storm development. Each day will not be a washout, but if you have afternoon plans, make sure you have the rain gear handy and stay weather aware for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Storms that develop will be capable of producing strong winds over 40 mph, frequent lightning, locally heavy rain, and small hail. Areas that have received heavy rain from storms in the previous days may experience minor flooding due to heavy downpours.
By midweek, a strong upper-level ridge will build east over the south. This will support a steady flow of heat and deep tropical moisture into the region. By the weekend, this ‘heat dome’ will trap the heat and moisture at the surface.
Dew points will reach the low to mid-70s, making it feel tropical and increasing the area’s heat risk by the weekend.
Highs are forecast to reach the upper 80s to nearly 90 degrees in the first half of the week. As the hot and humid air mass moves eastward late week, air temperatures will warm into the low 90s.
The high humidity will support heat index values ranging from 95 to 100 degrees Friday through the weekend. With a moderate heat risk by late week, make sure you drink plenty of water and electrolytes. It will also be important that you find ways to stay cool when spending time outdoors.
