HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Police said a woman was arrested Monday after an early morning shooting that left one man dead.
HPD said around 1 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a shot-fired call in the 3900 block of Rucker Circle. A department spokesperson said officers found a man, later identified as Nicholas Kyle Howell, 22, of Huntsville, suffering from a gunshot wound on the road at Telstar and Baldwin Circle.
According to HPD, Howell said he had been in the area of the 3900 block of Rucker Circle with a friend when he was shot. Authorities said Howell was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
HPD said officers found physical evidence at a nearby apartment complex on Rucker Circle, and information suggested the suspect was at a nearby apartment.
Police said Amber Marie Baker, 25, of Huntsville, was identified as a suspect and later arrested and charged with assault. HPD said the charge was upgraded to murder after Howell’s death.
According to HPD, the incident began as a planned transaction between Baker and Howell. The department said during their meeting, Baker pulled out a gun and shot Howell.
Baker is currently being held in the Madison County Jail without bond.
