Game respects game, and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was quick to give credit where it’s due to his team’s biggest rival.
Kershaw was being interviewed during Sunday Night Baseball’s broadcast when he brought up the San Francisco Giants trading for Rafael Devers.
While he could’ve found a way around the question or dismissed it, the future Hall of Famer was very quick to praise the Giants for the move.
“How about that trade? That’s wild!,” Kershaw told the Sunday Night Baseball crew. “Buster’s really doing it! Not Olney, Buster Posey’s really doing it over there. Good for Buster, man. He’s going for it. I’d consider (Rafael Devers) one of probably the top 10 hitters in the game at worst. He’s definitely a game-changer.”
Despite moving to designated hitter this season, Devers has been productive at the plate. Entering Monday, he hit .271 with 14 home runs and 57 RBI with an OPS+ of 149, which is well above league average. He popped his 15th homer in what ended up being his final hit as a member of the Red Sox.
Kershaw went on to then say what every baseball fan was thinking about when looking at the Giants roster.
“[It’ll] be interesting to see what position he plays,” Kershaw added in his interview. I know they have a big prospect at first base coming, so it’ll be interesting to see if he plays first. Obviously they have Matt Chapman, one of the best in the game at third, so even if he’s just DH for however long that contract is … I don’t know, man, it makes them better right now for sure.”
Even after the weekend series, the Giants trail the Dodgers by just two games in the National League West division. They will push and continue to add as the deadline nears in an effort to surpass the Dodgers and their recent division domination.
