DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said a man was arrested Monday following a chase where he attempted to ram law enforcement vehicles and damaged property.
DCSO said on Monday, a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a gray Tahoe on County Road 85 near County Road 112 in Henagar. The sheriff’s office said the Tahoe was speeding and did not have a license plate.
Authorities said the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Nathaniel Kyle Toney, 22, of Ider, refused to stop, and deputies began to pursue him.
DCSO said a chase ensued down several county roads at speeds greater than 100 mph. The sheriff’s office said deputies briefly lost sight of Toney, but he was then seen by Sylvania police officers. The chase continued from there.
“A large contingent of law enforcement officers from multiple different agencies joined the chase in an attempt to contain Toney as he ran stop signs, attempted to ram law enforcement vehicles, and disregarded the safety of the public at large,” The sheriff’s office said.
DCSO said near Highway 75 and County Road 122, deputies used a PIT maneuver to force Toney from the roadway in an attempt to keep him off a major highway. However, authorities said Toney was able to regain control of the vehicle and proceeded to damage property and attempt to ram a deputy before continuing to flee on County Road 122 into Jackson County.
“The pursuit continued into Jackson County and on several rural roads before Toney wrecked at the intersection of Jackson County Road 122 and Jackson County Road 59,” the sheriff’s office said. “Toney was extracted from the vehicle and taken into custody.”
DCSO said Toney was charged with attempting to elude, second-degree attempted assault, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued multiple driving infractions and was driving without a license, according to authorities.
