FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — Christian “CJ” McCoy announced his campaign to be the next Mayor of Florence.
Christian “CJ” McCoy, a 24-year-old father, entrepreneur, author, and mental health advocate, has officially qualified as the youngest mayoral candidate in the history of Florence, Alabama.
Since announcing his campaign in February, McCoy has carried out grassroots outreach, direct community service, and a forward-thinking economic vision titled Plan 256, which is not only a representation of his area code but also aims to create 256 new jobs within his first two years in office.
Some milestones McCoy has seen during the campaign trail include partnering with the Modern Academy Cosmetology Department to host a day of free services for seniors at the Glenwood Center and organized free haircuts for the homeless and local first responders. He’s also collaborated with local lawn care companies to offer free yard services for veterans, people with disabilities, and families struggling to make ends meet
“Some people question my age. I say this: I’ve lived more life than most politicians twice my age — and I’ve got the scars, the vision, and the work ethic to prove it,” McCoy said. “Leadership isn’t about how long you’ve been around — it’s about how willing you are to listen, learn, and serve. That’s exactly why I keep wise advisors and mentors around me — because good judgment doesn’t come from ego but from humility and hunger.”
According to McCoy, his campaign is focused on four key priorities: Revitalizing infrastructure, driving economic growth, strengthening public safety, and restoring education as a community priority.
“I’m not here to blend in. I’m here to break the mold, raise the bar, and lead Florence into a future it’s never seen before,” McCoy said.
His signature Plan 256 outlines real strategies to create local jobs by connecting small businesses with the city, expanding youth employment programs, and strengthening public-private partnerships.
