A man has been arrested for the cold case murder of a Cathedral City teenager in 2019, officials announced Saturday.
The alleged homicide happened in La Quinta on Oct. 26, 2019, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, inside a home on the 53000 block of Avenida Madero.
Deputies were called to the residence at 12:03 a.m. for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and, upon arriving, found 19-year-old Anthony Carrillo suffering from several gunshot wounds inside the home. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Central Homicide Unit arrived to investigate, but the suspect had already fled the scene.
“Unfortunately, after several years of investigation, the case went cold without any leads for an arrest,” detailed the sheriff’s department’s release.
However, investigators began a review later on, during which they found additional evidence and information that led them to reopen the case. The suspect was then identified as Jorge Huerta-Arias, a 24-year-old man from Whitewater.
The sheriff’s department said authorities arrested Huerta-Arias on Friday, June 13, for his involvement in the 2019 incident and booked him into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for murder.
“This investigation is ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time,” stated the department.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to call Master Investigator J. Manjarrez or Master Investigator V. Magana of the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
