Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears have been working hard over the last two years to get back into contention. While last season did not go quite as planned, there were still signs of major improvement.
Heading into the offseason, it was clear that general manager Ryan Poles wasn’t going to hold anything back. He started off the offseason with two major trades to improve the offensive line. Both Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney were acquired.
After that the Bears got aggressive in NFL free agency. Drew Dalman was signed, as were Dayo Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett. Plenty of other moves were made in addition to those.
While the roster has improved dramatically, a lot of Chicago’s success or lack thereof will rely on its second-year quarterback. Williams has superstar potential and he flashed some of that potential in his rookie season, but it’s time to take the next step.

Ahead of the upcoming season, Williams has received a new projection that would shock the NFL if it came true.
Chris Broussard, a notable sports analyst, has named Williams at No. 1 on his list of potential dark horse MVP candidates.
“At number one, we go to Chicago. Caleb Williams,” Broussard said. “I mean, it’s all set up. And here’s the thing, he showed enough flashes, like I would be surprised if he does not play well, cause he showed flashes. Four games over 300 (passing yards). Last seven games, 11 touchdowns, only one pick. And here’s the competition: Minnesota twice, Detroit twice, San Francisco, Seattle, and Green Bay.”
Along with Williams, Broussard also named Baker Mayfield and Brock Purdy. All three quarterbacks are hoping to put together big-time years to take their teams to the playoffs.

Throughout his rookie season in 2024, Williams played in 17 games. He completed 62.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while also running for 489 yards.
On the outside looking in, the roster is made up perfectly around Williams for him to succeed. He has elite weapons in D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Luther Burden III, as well as two tight ends in Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet.
With those weapons and the arm talent that Williams possesses, a breakout 2025 season is very possible. If he can play at an MVP candidate level, the Bears are going to take a big step in the right direction and be a potential playoff contender.
