Micah Parsons Contract Prediction Gives Cowboys Star Massive Payday

It’s rare to see an extension-needy star player avoid taking a holdout route during a mandatory phase of the offseason, but the Dallas Cowboys have been fortunate enough to have Micah Parsons around the team as they fired up a multi-day minicamp.

Parsons’ situation is clear: no deal, no play, but that doesn’t mean the veteran edge rusher is going to make a big spectacle about his financial discontent. Could that change in the future? Of course. While Parsons continues to assure the public that he’ll be in attendance for Cowboys camp in a couple of months with or without a new deal in place, that doesn’t mean he’ll suit up and participate.

Something has to get done. A recent rundown of contract predictions from CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin predicts that Parsons will eventually find his way to a new deal with the Cowboys—and it’s no small payday.

The prediction? $162 million over the next four seasons in Dallas.

“The Cowboys tend to get things done; they just do things at their own pace,” Benjamin explained.

“Like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb before him, Parsons is a face of this franchise, and he’ll likely be rewarded as such, if only after enduring a long offseason of speculation regarding his value. At the end of the day, our bet is Jerry Jones signs the check.”

So far, Parsons remains in good standing with everybody. Throughout his absence at the voluntary phase of offseason workouts, Parsons and Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer traded compliments and assured everybody they are on solid terms.

When Parsons showed up for the mandatory phase of camp earlier this week, the veteran was spotted having a lengthy conversation with the franchise owner, Jerry Jones. Parsons didn’t reveal many details from the conversation, but he denied the thought that it had anything to do with the upcoming contract discussions they’ll have sometime soon.

The Cowboys have time to satisfy Parsons before they make it to camp. It’s in their best interest to ensure they lock in the former 12th-overall pick before the situation takes a turn for the worse.

Since entering the NFL in 2021, Parsons has been a dominant force up front for Dallas’ defensive line. He played in 18 games in three out of his first four seasons in the league. Last year, Parsons missed time due to an ankle sprain. He played in just 11 games last season.

With 63 games on his resume, Parsons has racked up 256 tackles, with over 63 being for a loss. The veteran defensive end has accounted for 52.5 sacks, with 14 being his career-high. Despite seeing the field for just 11 games last year, he was only three sacks shy of beating out his personal best.

Parsons is deserving of a notable extension. Many expect it to get done soon.
