From a dog that hilariously acts like a “drunk girl at 2 a.m.” whenever he is near a bar to an animal so rare that it was dubbed a “ghost,” we’ve enjoyed varied pet stories this week.
But, alongside animal news and viral videos, we love sharing our readers’ pets in our Newsweek Pet of the Week.
If you want your pet to be featured next week, be sure to follow the instructions at the end of this story to get involved.
Winner
This week’s winners are an adorable group—a litter of 7-week-old Labrador retriever puppies caught on camera having their first-ever wagon ride.
“We have been registered Labrador breeders for over 35 years,” Larry Warvill, from Ontario, Canada, told Newsweek. “We show and train dogs.”
Just a week before the puppies head off to their new homes, they were given a special treat—their first wagon ride.
In a heartwarming video, all of the puppies sit in the wagon together. “This was their first wagon ride,” said Warvill. “They all enjoyed the ride.”
Finalists
Our first finalist this week is Cocoa, a sweet and spirited rescue dog who now lives with owner Donald Licciardo after being abandoned.
“She is a rescue dog someone abandoned, and I took her in,” Licciardo told Newsweek.
Despite uncertain beginnings, Cocoa has blossomed in her forever home and is a fantastic part of the family.
“She is very timid yet bold,” Licciardo said. “Very well behaved and I’m lucky she found me.”
Next up this week is much-loved cat Diesel who was adopted by owner Estelle Streeter two Christmases ago.
Since joining the family, Diesel settled in quickly, and loves to balance rest and play in a way only a cat can, finding favorite spots to nap and for playtime activities.
“He has adapted himself to this spot in our bedroom where the sun shines throughout the morning,” Streeter told Newsweek. But when he isn’t relaxing, Diesel is firmly in playtime mode: “He does have a climber and toys for exercise as well,” the owner said.
Last but not least this week is Woozoo, a delightful cockatiel who lives with owner Pam Blower.
Adopted three years ago, Woozoo has become a beloved and spoiled member of the household, charming everyone with her quirky routines.
The bird’s most-endearing habit takes place at breakfast time: “She is so spoiled and flies over to the toaster oven and waits patiently for her toast every day,” Blowers told Newsweek.
