The New York Knicks are currently looking around the NBA to find a new head coach for the team. After New York dismissed veteran head coach Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks have been frantically searching for a new leader.

The Knicks have reportedly tried to pry multiple coaches from their current teams, with Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd being the main target. New York was denied to speak with multiple head coaches, including Kidd.
But a new update on the situation has kept hope alive that Kidd could eventually become the next head coach of the Knicks. According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, Kidd may be looking for a new extension from Dallas.
However, if this doesn’t happen, Kidd could then turn his attention to New York.
“The Dallas Mavericks’ Jason Kidd and the Chicago Bulls’ Billy Donovan are two the New York might circle back to in the coming weeks, according to league sources. The belief around the league is that Kidd and Donovan are looking for contract extensions from their current franchises, and if those don’t materialize, they might be open to joining the Knicks.”
It remains to be seen whether Dallas will give Kidd another extension this offseason, which could open the door for New York. Kidd just received a multi-year extension from the Mavericks last offseason after rumors that the Los Angeles Lakers were interested in him.
Kidd has emerged as one of the better coaches in the NBA while with the Mavericks. The veteran owns a record of 179-149 and has made the postseason in two of his four seasons with the team.
The Mavericks went to the NBA Finals last year under the leadership of Kidd, and he has become a strong locker room presence. Players enjoy his demeanor, but the Mavericks may have to pay up if they want to keep him within the organization.
New York seems to be working with the impression that Kidd won’t be available, but stranger things have happened before. The Knicks have reportedly scheduled interviews with former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins and former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown to take the open position.
