Many parents know the struggle of trying to stay awake during their toddler’s bedtime routine, and one dad was caught falling asleep by his own daughter—who made sure to bring receipts.

After taking his 14-month-old daughter, Payton, upstairs to start winding down, Kyle Laffin was hoping she would get tired quickly and drift off to sleep. But as it turned out, he was the first one to fall asleep instead.

With Kyle snoozing on the floor, Payton, now 18 months, picked up his phone to start playing with the buttons, only to capture a hilarious clip of her dad asleep. His wife and Payton’s mom, Hannah Laffin, of Fort Worth, Texas, told Newsweek that they were all “rolling laughing” when they came across the footage several days later.

Hannah said: “Bedtime starts at 7 p.m., but she’s known to wake up throughout the evening especially when she’s teething. I believe it was later in the evening when she took this video.

“We didn’t see the video until a few days after she took it. Kyle had only been asleep for a few moments, so he had no idea she had grabbed his phone to take the video.”

Only being 14 months old at the time, Payton wouldn’t have meant to capture the video footage, as she just enjoys clicking buttons and tapping the screen. But Hannah says it was “a happy accident” that she happened to go onto the camera and angle the phone at her exhausted dad.

Nonetheless, it certainly gave her parents quite the laugh when they watched her iconic directorial debut.

Hannah couldn’t resist sharing the video on Instagram (@hannah.laffin) and the clip went viral with over 12 million views and 1.4 million likes at the time of writing.

The caption alongside the clip joked that “dad can’t hang past 7.”

Social media users can’t get enough of the amusing video, as many fellow parents could relate to how tired Kyle must have felt that night. It’s been heartening for Hannah to see all the support and humor that her post has generated.

“Parents related to the exhaustion you feel at the end of the day with a toddler,” Hannah told Newsweek. “Most people have appreciated the humorous circumstances of the moment: the stuffed animal as a pillow, the clumsy toddler noises, and the momentary pause of the camera.”

With over 450 comments on the Instagram video already, plenty of commenters said this clip summed up parenthood perfectly.

One comment reads: “baby brought receipts.”

Another Instagram user wrote: “couldn’t focus that camera on anything else EXCEPT the most guilty part of the evidence.”

Another person joked: “baby girl was just showing you how she was able to get dad to go to bed.”

While one commenter added: “Look at this guy, sleeping on the job.”
