EXCLUSIVE: Miss You Already producer Christopher Simon has boarded low-budget Brit pic YAMAS!.
The film, which is being produced for under £500,000 ($675,000), is the debut title of Harry Richards and Rufus Love’s production house, Headrush Films, and is billed as a chaotic comedy-drama satire. Richards and Love are co-directing from a script Love adapted from his theater script of the same name.
New Sparta Productions CEO Simon will executive-produce the film, alongside Disauthority CEO Marcus Hundsnes, who put some of the production finance. Ex-Anton, Head Gear and HanWay Films financier exec Orlando Figg is also supporting the project.
The 90-minute comedy-drama is billed as a “sizzling satire that sees a liberal British family’s boozy holiday plunged into chaos by the discovery of a refugee living in the villa’s outhouse.”
Development finance of £40,000 has been raised and a shoot will take place in Greece this fall. The film has only six roles, which will be cast this year, and a single location, but the plan is to create a festival-friendly pic that will be ready in time for Christmas. Love and Richards previously made short film Contact Hours.
“We are so excited to be supporting Headrush Films on this project,” said Disauthority’s Hundsnes. “Harry and Rufus demonstrated their skill as filmmakers with Contact Hours, and their bold vision for YAMAS! feels extremely fresh. We’re proud to be helping to guarantee that the film is delivered at the highest possible quality.”
“The zeitgeisty message of YAMAS! combined with Richards and Love’s proven ability to create an impactful cinematic experience looks to make YAMAS! a strong contender on next year’s festival circuit,” added Figg. “It is an attractive proposition to investors looking for low budget projects from strong, fresh directorial voices, without the compromise on production value.”
