EXCLUSIVE: Ryan Robbins (Riverdale, Sanctuary) has been cast as a recurring guest star in Netflix‘s Little House on the Prairie reboot, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic semi-autobiographical novels. Robbins will play Russell Kind, a rough and grizzled settler with a cynical world view.
The Ingalls family at the center of the story will be played by Alice Halsey (Laura), Luke Bracey (Charles), Crosby Fitzgerald (Caroline), and Skywalker Hughes (Mary). Series leads also include Jocko Sims, Warren Christie, Meegwun Fairbrother, Wren Zhawenim Gotts, Xander Cole, and Alyssa Wapanatâhk, with Xander Cole in a recurring role.
Described as part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, the new Little House on the Prairie comes from showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine and CBS Studios.
Sonnenshine executive produces alongside Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions, Dana Fox and Susanna Fogel. Sarah Adina Smith will direct the first episode. CBS Studios produces with Anonymous Content Studio. Filming is slated to begin in June in Winnipeg, Canada.
Robbins is best known for playing Frank Andrews in Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s CW series Riverdale, based on the characters from the Archie Comics. He has also appeared in the CW’s Arrow and multiple Syfy shows, including Sanctuary, Battlestar Galactica, Deadly Class, Van Helsing, Continuum, and The Magicians. His guest appearances include CBS’ Watson, Surface from Apple TV+, AMC’s Snowpiercer and ABC’s The Good Doctor. He is repped by Principal Entertainment LA and Play Management.
