Former Jets GM Gives Brutal Prediction on Aaron Rodgers’ Future With Steelers

Aaron Rodgers finally made a decision to play in his upcoming 21st season, and he will be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers come September. However, the presumed Hall of Fame quarterback is also 41 years old and his time with the New York Jets has many questioning his ability to remain a high-level talent.

One such person happens to be former Jets general manager and current analyst Mike Tannenbaum. Tannenbaum spoke on “Get Up,” about Rodgers, and how he will be “irrelevant” come November.

“Aaron Rodgers is gonna be irrelevant by Thanksgiving…a non-playoff team, a 42-year-old quarterback” – Mike Tannenbaum pic.twitter.com/N907zuC1wJ

Tannenbaum has a bold prediction for the team, which is that he believes Rodgers’ first year with the Steelers is not going to go well.

“I think Aaron Rodgers is going to be irrelevant by Thanksgiving … A non-playoff team, a 42-year-old quarterback who’s a legend that is going off into the sunset.”

Tannenbaum explains further when probed about his wild prediction, and he explains that the Steelers are the third-best team in the AFC North. Also, they have to see if their draft pick, Will Howard, can also take over once Rodgers retires.

There is some truth to what Tannenbaum is saying, in that the Steelers could be perceived as the third-best team in the division. The Baltimore Ravens are the clear front-runners to win the division, and the Cincinnati Bengals could see a turnaround in 2025.

Still, anything can happen in the NFL, and the Steelers were a playoff team in 2025. They did lose George Pickens and Najee Harris, but they also got Rodgers and DK Metcalf.

The Steelers have most of their core team still intact from the 2024 season, so it is believed they can secure another playoff berth. However, that all boils down to whether Rodgers can still sling the ball like he once did.

Rodgers was fully healthy in 2024 with the Jets, and the team finished with a 5-12 record. The fit for Rodgers and the team might just not have clicked.

Now, Rodgers is set to lead an equally strong Steelers offense. But he is also entering a fierce division with players like Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett, Ravens star linebacker Kyle Van Noy, and many more defensive studs.

Things might be tough for Rodgers from a divisional standpoint. He is an aging quarterback who was banged up in 2024, dealing with hits from defenders. One wrong hit and he might just be irrelevant come Thanksgiving.
