Summary

  • Activision unveiled a cinematic teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 at the Xbox Games Showcase
  • The trailer suggests a “mind-bending” narrative with David Mason battling a fear-weaponizing enemy, strongly hinting at the return of iconic villain Raul Menendez.
  • No release date has been confirmed yet

Activision has unveiled the madness, kicking off its next blockbuster title with the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 teaser trailer. The reveal, which deliberately capped off Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase just last weekend.

The teaser sets a “mind-bending” tone, hinting at a complex narrative set in the year 2035, making it a direct sequel to both Black Ops 2 (set in 2025) and Black Ops 6 (set in the 90s). The story will follow David Mason (voiced by Milo Ventimiglia), son of original protagonist Alex Mason, and his team as they battle a “manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else.” The trailer also strongly suggests the return of iconic villain Raul Menendez, indicating his continued influence decades after Black Ops 2.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Black Ops 7 is a significant release as it’s the first time Activision is releasing back-to-back Black Ops games. It’s confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and notably, will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. While no specific release date was given in the trailer, Call of Duty titles historically launch in October or November, setting the stage for a late 2025 release.
