The NBA offseason is slowly approaching, and soon there could be a ton of activities earlier than expected.

More NBA news: Kings’ Domantas Sabonis Could Be Pursued by Emerging East Team

Although the NBA Finals are underway, the NBA offseason is at the forefront of many people’s minds. It is expected to be an offseason full of turnover, as many teams are expected to make moves that will either bolster or significantly shake up their rosters.

We can expect a significant amount of player movement this summer, and two names who could find new homes are Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young and Cleveland Cavaliers star guard Darius Garland.

Young could be on the move this summer, and so could Garland, for the right price. A handful of teams will have them on the radar, but according to NBA Dallas-based reporter Grant Afseth, the Sacramento Kings are at the top of the list that could go for either of the two.

“The Sacramento Kings have identified Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland as a trade target as they seek to address the team’s vacancy at lead guard this offseason, multiple league sources told RG. Sacramento is motivated to find a long-term solution at point guard after trading De’Aaron Fox in February.

“While Sacramento has interest in Garland, multiple league sources told RG that the Atlanta Hawks have spoken with the Kings on a potential trade framework centered around Trae Young in recent weeks. However, those talks have since stalled.”

Young and Garland are two of the youngest and brightest guards in the game today. Young has established himself as a superstar in the league, while Garland is on his way to doing the same.

The Kings want and need to upgrade their point guard position after they traded Fox at the NBA trade deadline. They desperately need to upgrade that position as they only have Markelle Fultz and Devin Carter as reliable options at that position.

Young may be the heftiest price to pay, as he is eligible for a four-year, $229 million extension. The former Oklahoma Sooner is coming off a stellar season where he averaged 24.2 points per game, 11.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds across 76 games.

As for Garland, while he was great in the regular season, he only played in five of the 10 playoff games for the Cavaliers due to a severe toe injury. He required surgery and could miss the start of the 2025-26 season.

Sacramento is expected to be highly aggressive in its search for a point guard, and with plenty of time on their side, they’re in a position to make a meaningful move.
