Encouraging Update Emerges Ahead of Dallas Cowboys Minicamp

There is still a lot of time left in the offseason for situations to play out differently, but the Dallas Cowboys should feel good about the way their current phase with Micah Parsons is playing out.

On Monday, Cowboys players reported to the team’s facility to partake in physicals ahead of the team’s mandatory minicamp, which begins on Tuesday. As Micah Parsons searches for an extension, the lack of contract discussions lately have left many wondering if he’s a potential holdout candidate.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, Parsons was at the facility to get his physical done. The veteran cornerback Trevon Diggs was in attendance as well, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Cowboys hold their mandatory minicamp practices Tuesday-Thursday at The Star. Today players had their physicals with team doctors and that included Trevon Diggs, Micah Parsons.

Last week, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Parsons’ willingness to show up for camp this week. The head coach stated that he had been in contact with Parsons on good terms. There was evidence of that on Sunday night, when Parsons contacted the head coach in a recorded video that was made public.

In the video, Schottenheimer showed his appreciation for Parsons’ approach to the team while waiting for the business side of things to get sorted out.

“I know this is weird for everybody, man, but look, you’re handling everything the right way, bro,” said Schottenheimer. “This thing’s going to get worked out. Again, I’m thrilled to see where we take this thing, man. We’re building something special and you’re going to be a huge part of it, bro.”

Diggs’ situation hasn’t been talked about as much, although his absence from last week’s activities was notable. As the Cowboys held voluntary workouts, Diggs was away from the organization, rehabbing in Florida. Since he wasn’t with the team, Diggs was staring at a potential financial loss, based on the way his contract is structured.

According to ESPN, Diggs would need to take part in 84 percent of the offseason program in order avoid a $500,000 loss. Similar to Parsons’ situation, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer was confident that everything was “positive” for Diggs and the team.

Dallas isn’t out of the woods just yet. While Parsons is showing up and keeping a positive attitude, there is still pressure for Dallas to get a deal done sometime in the not-so-distant future. As he’s starred for Dallas over the past four seasons, Parsons wants to lock in a major extension before suiting up for year five.

Over 63 games, Parsons has registered 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks. Ideally, the three-time All-Pro, four-time Pro-Bowler gets his deal sooner rather than later to avoid any issues when training camp rolls around later this summer.
