When the Dallas Wings selected former UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, it was an immediate fresh start for the franchise. She has the potential to become a legitimate superstar.
Already to begin her professional career, Bueckers has proven the hype right.
Through her first six WNBA games, Bueckers has averaged 14.7 points, 6.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds, two steals, and a block per game, while shooting 43.7 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from three-point distance.
Unfortunately, Bueckers suffered a concussion against the Chicago Sky last week. She was forced to miss the Wings’ last three games due to the injury.

On Sunday, Dallas is set to play host to the Minnesota Lynx. Ahead of that game, the Wings have received a huge update regarding Bueckers.
According to a report from Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints, Bueckers is “probable” to play. She has cleared concussions protocol, but is dealing with an illness.
“Wings rookie Paige Bueckers has cleared concussion protocol,” Mistretta wrote. “She is now dealing with an illness which is why she is probable for Sunday’s game against the Lynx.”
While the team has struggled so far this season, holding just a 1-8 record through their first nine games, Bueckers has given them new life. The future is bright, even if the present is not yielding a lot of success.
Moving forward, Bueckers is going to be the face of the Dallas franchise. WNBA legend Lisa Leslie spoke out about how she needs to lead the Wings.
“So I feel like with Paige Bueckers, she knows what championship status is. She has had a great coach in Geno Auriemma, and you don’t have to wait a year, just because you’re a rookie, to use your voice,” Leslie said.

“I would say to Paige, ‘Hey, show [her Wings teammates] by how you show up, how you shoot, how you stay after practice. But also show them based on what you know needs to happen.’”
There is a lot of work for Bueckers and Dallas to put in. It will be a process to get to the point of being a playoff team. Despite that fact, the Wings are headed in the right direction.
Hopefully, Bueckers is able to get back on the court against the Lynx. Fans cannot wait to see her back in action and it sounds like Sunday will be the day.
